The files will work on any MP3 player. LibriVox offers recordings of books that are in the public domain. The site just celebrated its one-thousandth title! So, you’ll find plenty of books from which to choose. Cost: Free Link: librivox.org/

This was pretty neat. The first several searches I tried came up empty, but I did get a hit on Kurt Vonnegut JR. A futurist short story about 'population control' to preserve this planet.

Also check out freeclassicaudiobooks.com Their books are available in 2 formats: mp3 and m4b for ipod. The advantage of using the iPod format is that it remembers where you stop in a file, so it's easy to go back to.
