this afternoon (Tu 12/18) in my neighborhood. Internet, TV, and PHONE. I thought about the olden days (but not so old that my phone wires weren't underground, shielded from wind, ice, and squirrels), when Ma Bell had almost never failed to furnish dial-tone, let alone for 2 hours, as COX did today. I has thinking about the massively parallel analog structures we've abandoned for economies of scale, perhaps at the cost that the occasional failure is widespread rather than local. And then I used my cell phone to verify the outage with COX and a neighbor.
