Tell me more! Please!
I'm hoping that "yes" means I do NOT need a new motherboard. Please tell me what I need to do.
My bro-in-law gave me a beautiful Maxtor OneTouchIII external drive, but at the USB 1.1 speed of 55 MB per minute, it would take over 60 hours to back-up its 200 GB capacity.

Yes:-- assumes that you have a desktop computer with an open PCI slot. a usb 2.0 pci card will fit in that slot . Win98 will require loading of drivers from the accompanying CD ROM. later OS's will not. Thats the sketch. dilbert

He's taken! The OneTouch seemed like it wrote about 1/2GB per minute. Everything is working -- 1.25GB DDR, USB 2.0, and external HDD -- even the digital camera unloads much faster.

Your Medion is already USB 2.0 compliant, as well as being backward compliant to USB 1.*
As such, you shouldn't have to do anything.

I don't think it was. The external HDD ran at 1/10th speed before the PCI card, and I always got a 'this device can operate faster' message' when I plugged in a USB drive.

[glow=red,2,300] compliant[/glow]Means you CAN add on a board and that board will work. [glow=red,2,300] compliant[/glow]Does not mean it will do it without doing anything.

Here's my take on this.
Steve and I have the same machine - a Medion desktop running Windows XP.
Mine is USB 2.0 so I automatically assumed Steve's is as well.
Was this not a safe assumption?

article say: If your Device Manager shows an ENHANCED USB Host Controller, the system has High Speed USB (USB 2.0) capability.
Types of High Speed USB (USB 2.0) Host Controllers
Intel Enhanced
SiS Enhanced
VIA Enhanced
ALi Enhanced
Standard Enhanced
NEC Enhanced
The system shown has onboard Intel High Speed USB (USB 2.0) with an NEC High Speed USB (USB 2.0) PCI card installed.
The key word is ENHANCED. If you have an ENHANCED USB Host Controller then you have High Speed USB (USB 2.0)
All other types are USB v.1.1
The difference between v.1.0 and v.1.1 is explained here.

Question would be can you both answer "yes" to the above. Same Chips? same ENHANCED drivers in XP (assumed so).
If I missed something - let me apologize in advance....
