Just so we can see these on the big screen (B.S.) Saturday --
The seven tablet talking points (which Prez. Martin suggested):
1. Identification of the tablet and the operating system, IOS, Android or other. Samsung Galaxy Tablet 2 (7.0) GT2 (7.0) with Android 4.0.4 ‘Ice Cream Sandwich’ (ICS)
2. When/where the tablet was purchased? Mid-August, BestBuy, ordered online for in-store pick-up. Price was $249.99 for “a $350 value”, for a limited (2-week?) period ($249.99 tablet + $80 keyboard/dock + $20 USB socket = MSRP $349.99) now commonly 199.99 or slightly less for the tablet only -- but availability was spotty around Christmas, and accessories are limited in selection and availability.
3. Do you use it for productive work or entertainment? Entertainment. Other than my calendar, and brief e-mail responses, strictly entertainment.
4. Why you selected this tablet? I wanted Android rather than Apple I wanted Android but not Google branding. I’d heard good things about the Galaxy tab long before I even suspected I’d want a tab. I was impressed with the Samsung ‘dumb phone’ I bought 4 months prior.
5. Applications worth mentioning. You must have a Google account to use the PlayStore.
Adobe Flash Radio Tuner tunein Audio Recorder Easy Voice Recorder Free Google Maps (with GPS!)
6. Accessories that came with it/ additional items you want/ need to buy? A case, 32GB microSD card, earphones, multi-format card reader
7. Likes and dislikes. All in all, I like this table A LOT! Sometimes when I’m typing, the predictive text is great, but other times grrrr The Google Voice Search is incredible.

Monday, Jan 14th, my Samsung tablet was updated from Android 4.0.4 (ICS) to 4.1.1 (JB). Wow, this is way cool! Monday morning when I turned on my Samsung tablet, I was offered a Samsung update from Ice Cream Sandwich to a Jelly Bean (there's already another JB, 4.2). At our SLUGO computer club meeting the prior Saturday, Derek, a long-time friend and technical adviser, demonstrated Jelly Bean on his tablet. One of the things Derek did that I hadn't was speak/talk while his tablet translated speech to text. All I'd used speech for was Google Search. Now, 'dictating' to compose e-mail is much better than typing. I don't know whether Ice Cream Sandwich lacked this capability or I was simply unaware of it. Now that I too have Jelly Bean, Derek has enlightened me, and this works slick(ly)! Prior to the upgrade, my tablet had a dedicated 'soft key' to perform screen captures, but I no longer see that button. Derek provided the solution, again -- simply press/hold volume down and the power switch at the same time, and the screen-capture is saved to the clipboard and the gallery. Thanks again! I get by with (quite) a little help from my friends, --Steve Dictated on and emailed from Lucky Luby's Samsung GT2-7.0-4.1.1 then edited on a 'real' PC
