There are apps on my Samsung Stratosphere phone that I would like to delete. I went to the Verizon store and was told that they could not delete them, because they had a contract with the app folks.
I do not have a contract with the app folks and would like to uninstall them to get rid of the clutter. Does anyone know how to get rid of "Lets Golf 2," "NFL Mobile," "NFS Shift," and others?
Thank you.

Perry -- if you have unwanted apps, I'm certain other members do also. If Leo's suggestion works -- maybe an article for the newsletter would help many of your fellow SLUGO friends!!!

On the forum below, a frustrated Verizon user with the same phone is having the same issue as you. He's complaining these bloatware programs won't uninstall. community.verizonwireless.com/thread/786722This most likely is because the programs are burned into the ROM as firmware in exchange for software sponsorship to subsidize the price of the phone. You could root the phone to get rid of them, but that may void your warranty. Can you take it back to Verizon, and respectfully request a "crapware-free" phone?

How much more are you willing to pay for a 'crap free' phone? Some 'crap' is intrusive, some less. You gotta decide what you're willing to pay, and what you want someone else to sponsor.
As for 'rooting', I read ( in ONE forum only) that a rooted Android device worked fine for a while, then choked on the first OTA software update. It's just one instance, perhaps inaccurately observed/reported, but ... a 16gig microSD is about $25, and totally clean unsponsored phones are available, at market prices. Somebody has to pay.
It's not FONTS eating up your RAM, izit? (BIG Grin)
Just my humble opinion, --Steve

My fellow Slugs . . . . . . There is Hope . . . . ! I generally agree with Steve's assessment, however, several Open Source mobile OS's are on the horizon. (which will reduce the crapware by 80 to 90%) or basically, to what you're now seeing via running a browser with loose settings. > Firefox OS: will have substantial developer support (running html5, ajax, javascript, etc.). > Sailfish OS: is coming from the former execs at Nokia that left to continue building the Meego OS (which MS killed after Nokia contract). > Ubuntu mobile OS - the first actual convergence OS . . . plug it into a dock, with wireless keyboard, mouse & monitor and it runs as a full PC (Ubuntu Linux) alongside MS Win NT, XP, 7 & RT via a thin client & citrix services. Unplug it and it reverts back to Android mobile. So, syncing is considerably simpler. If interested in the convergence concept, here's a long but informative video: www.youtube.com/watch?v=cpWHJDLsqTU&feature=player_embedded

I apologize for not getting back to this more quickly. I tried the process that Leo suggested, but could not find all the mentioned icons. Probably, a lack of knowledge on my part. I do agree with Trudy that this might make a good article or program. If we can't uninstall these programs because of licensing agreements between the purveyor and the provider, maybe we could at least learn how to gather their icons together under one superfolder. This would get unwanted "clutter" off our screens. Thank you all for your help.
