Working on putting the reserve flag onto my machines I have found some Cpus are not compatable with windows 10/ Looks like early dual core cps mostly the early Pentium D but not all so far in my case. Reading the why for on these cpus is they are lacking instruction sets needed for windows 10. So unless they do a work around on these orphan cpus they are windows 7 bound. Instruction sets are hard coded into the cpus so I don't think they can change that.
Microsoft says they will release windows 10 to the computers that don't have the upgrade flag after July 29 but if it won't run on them whats the use.

Now when you try to check the pc to see if it will run windows 10 it says report not available. Maybe they are working bugs out of the report now?

And it is day #2 -- and I see no change in either computer. Granted, the main one is set to download but not install -- but the laptop is set to download and install at will -- and so far, only security updates. Maybe tomorrow.

My one Internet-coonected Windows (7) computer, set to download but not install updates, has a pop-up that sez Win 10 is ready to install. I'm hanging back from the bleeding edge, for a bit.

Apparently, the OS upgrade process does not preserve user settings and preferences (as upgrades by Apple and Canonical do). Probably not an insurmountable problem, but good to be aware of. Looks like Firefox's CEO not so thrilled either: LINK

After looking at my update history -- I found that Win10 tried to install twice on 7/29 and twice today. Failed all 4 times - and never gave an indication that there was a problem. Googled around for a hint - and found an interesting site that listed that ever important MS error code# and found a number of work arounds. Tried the first one -- deleting everything in the C:\windows\SoftwareDistribution\download file and then typing something at the command prompt -- and it worked!! The little 1gb memory laptop churned away for 4 hours but installed the update. I only had 3 programs installed [Ccleaner, Chrome and a genealogy program] and all work just fine. It kept my background the same and looks just like the old screen - except for a few new icons on the taskbar. So far -- I like it. I've updated Windows Defender, installed a new printer driver from HP, cleaned junk with Ccleaner and Disk Cleanup.
Right now it is churning thru a Windows Defender 'quick scan' that is anything but quick.
So far -- I like it. Nice to have a menu back on the 'start' square. Have not tried too many things -- but I do like it better than Win8.1 !
Don't think I will update my main computer for 6 month or so -- I need to try this Win10 for a longer period of time.

Trudy, did you happen to notice if you have more than one web browser installed ? . . . assuming yes (Edge & Chrome?). Which one shows to be the default browser?

Both Chrome and Edge are installed with Edge the default. Don't think that will be a problem -- as I always use the icons to select a browser. And I'm just testing Chrome -- I want to see if it behaves on the laptop. Or I can install my favorite - FireFox. With more people using tablets and smart phones - Win 8 or 10 screens look normal.
I do like some of the cleaner looking icons.

Not being a patient person waiting for Microsoft to download win 10. So I download three versions Home and Pro 64bit and 32bit ISO so I can burn dvd installs. Now I can use them all on any machine I want. Still have to replace a couple video cards that they said wasn't supported under 10. Mostly the video cards don't have drivers to cover windows 10. So far none of the installs have asked for a serial number so it must look at the current version and decide if the upgrade qualifies. No lockups or crashes lets say so far!! Some business I was at wed and Thursday said sorry our computers are slow today....Yep I said I bet there was a mass download on their computers and it was slowing down their node.

Just for the heck of it -- I'm going to install FireFox and get all my favorites loaded. Then I can import them to Chrome if I want -- I'll even give Edge a try. Nothing to loose. But --- I did play the Win10 intro movie, and then went and changed my settings -- it was set to save and send far too much info for my taste. I don't like to share where I've been, what I read, what I saved etc. Too many bells and whistles all reporting to MS.
Later . . . .

If you install window 10 by accident or on purpose and want to go back to windows seven in settings in windows 10 you can click a program that will return you system back to windows 7. It says you have a month to do this if you don't like windows 10. But you will have to reactivate your windows 7 so keep your serial numbers.
I had to do this with one computer three times as I was having driver problems with windows 10 and had to straighten them out in 7 first.
Oh if you download the iso using the media creator make sure to change language to English I made one in I think Croation or something.

I have been having trouble with some Nvidia video cards but windows has later downloaded a new NVidia driver. Mostly problems with dual out puts on cards to drive second monitor or dvi outputs. There is going to be a lot of fine tuning on stuff. Found a couple sites that wouldn't recognize the new browser. I have done four dell towers all dual core or above and a dell dual core laptop and a Toshiba dual core laptop. Doing a quad core HP today and windows all ready downloaded a new Nvidia driver that one which is goo that's the one I feed into my tv by the way of dvi/hdmi No disasters but again driver issues. I still have six more towers to work thru. We have to wait for the hardware people to get catch up with drivers.....why couldn't they be on the ball on this? Well they want to sell newer hardware that's why and most of our stuff of the past five years is still doing what we want.
