When you get tired of the nag to update to Win10 -- DO NOT CLICK to set up an install in the future. Microsoft's idea of 'future' is 3 DAYS and you can't exit out of the window!! AND YOU CAN'T CHANGE IT!!! So, on Wednesday at 1:00 p.m. my machine will start the install - ready or not. I have copied all my data to a separate disk drive - just in case. I have all my programs on their original install disks. I have all install disks for the hardware -- I'm as ready as I can be, I guess. Man -- I hadn't planned to do this until Jan-Mar 2016 - when more of the bugs have been worked out. Sooooo -- just ignore that nag screen - you have been warned!

I like the professional way Canonical handles Ubuntu updates . . the users are offered a choice if they want to "be advised' when updates are available. And even that choice option is only seen when the user goes into the "Software & Updates" section of the System Settings program.
That notification applet doesn't update or install anything.
It just advises either an interim update is available (as in the Wily Werewolf update in October), or that the 5 year LTS (long term support) version is available (every other year in April).
Most users just choose to update to the 5 year LTS - so, after next April, the OS will be supported until April 2021. So, bottom line, Ubuntu & Linux still respect user intellect and freedom.

They Gotttchaa didn't they. That was slick wording on Microsofts part wasn't it. Saying install later was like giving them ok to install it later..again later being of their own description of later I guess.

I postponed it by turning my computer off and going to my mom's for lunch and a visit. Then started the 'upgrade' at 3:30 p.m. and it was done and working by 5:15. So far, the only problem I had was the sound did not work. I have an old SoundBlaster/Creative Labs sound card. It found and installed an update with no results. Following a suggestion on the Win10 site, I uninstalled the sound card drivers and tried to install the update again -- but then it didn't see that I have any hardware to go with the software - so it quite. Saying a few words -- I got my OLD original install disk and tried a fresh install. It appeared to work - until I got a window that said Microsoft needed 'signed' drivers. Huh -- so they didn't 'sign' them back in 20??. Anyway -- I tried to install the update again -- and this time it worked and I have my sound again. Other than that -- it looks the same except for the black bar at the bottom. It preserved my background and all my icons and even Fences is working. I have done 2 updates to programs I have -- but as far as I can tell, it is all working.
But, seriously, when you install Win10 -- be sure to turn OFF all the options that SHARE YOUR information and preferences, track what you click on, programs you have on your PC, where you go on the Internet, how you write, where you are, who your friends are ----- the list is ENDLESS and was the very first change I made. I turned everything off.
I would like to do a 'clean boot' at some point.
I'll keep you posted.
