Hello Members . .
Slugo is undergoing several changes affecting all users.
Recently, due to extensive renovations - we've had to meet at the Dospace at 72nd and Dodge (March & April meetings). We hope everyone got the "e-blasts" we sent out prior to the meetings and than no one came to Sump to find an empty room. Because getting reservations at Dospace is hard (they don't do recurring meetings), we couldn't get a room this month and therefore had our annual outing at the Hanson home in May.
But, for June and onward, the regular location is reserved for us at Sump.
In addition, because of changes in our membership, we've made a couple other changes:
> We're in process of modernizing our name, our "brand" so to speak to something more familiar and descriptive than the acronym "Slugo" which is just a mystery word to people outside the club. So, the board discussed this at our meetings and we're going to try out the new name "OmahaTechConnect." We feel it combines the PC or technical part of who the club is, along the social aspect of "connecting" with like minded people. After a year or so, we'll evaluate if the new name is actually the best fit for us, but unless Sanyo goes back into the PC-Sales business, it's unlikely we'll resurrect the Slugo name again.
> We've also had to completely update our website. The old maintainer (Derek) retired from his job and is spending most of his time in the Northwest Io-way area (Okoboji). The old code and website manager editor (Kompozer) has not been updated in years and doesn't support current standards. In light of that we built a new website using a modern tool called "WordPress." The new website is designed to be more interactive to subscribers to the website . . . allowing for user input and comments. It is also a "one-stop-shop" where club members can post questions, reviews and comment - - things we used to do only on the Proboards. And lastly, the new site is also a LOT easier to maintain and customize for future use.
So, while change can seem daunting sometimes (and we seniors don't love change so much) . . . we are trying to keep the club growing and interesting versus stagnation.
The new website is at: LINK to New Website . . . . the servers are WordPress optimized and located in the Chicago area.
Finally, we plan to review these changes at the July OmahaTechConnect (aka OTC) meeting including doing a live demo of the new site.
