I enjoyed getting better acquainted with the message board, and seeing quite a few people visit for the 1st or 2nd time, ever. The message board, in my mind, is a step removed from email. A post is not addressed to any individual or group, but directed to the message board community. It may be an appeal for help, a sharing of excitement about a new toy or new knowledge, or just an opining about the state of technology, or of the world. Anyway, Derek obviously expends effort to provide us with what can be an extension of the meeting. Why not use it? OK, I'll ease back on the B.S.

Trudy, thanks for the USB-light door prize. I was skeptical about how useful it would be, but it's like a goose-necked Geico Gecko illuminating my KB in my now-pleasantly-dim room. Waykool!

I think the 'adoption table' was a good idea. Several people found things of interest, and nothing got left behind. I've begun a major computer room rehab/excavation, and hope to have contributions next time.

Well, if I can muster the nerve tomorrow, I'm going to give the Seagate disk installer program (DiskWhiz?) another chance. Wish me luck!

Glad you liked the USB light --- I have 2 more to give out as door prizes. Hummmmm -- just a little light may be what I would like also as I play computer games at night. The small desk lamp I have is WAY too much most of the time!

Trudy, try it, you'll like it! My ole 98SE computer (a Flemming AMD750) has USB ports only on the back, so I use a (free after rebate) 4-port USB hub on my desk's top (as opposed to my desktop), and position the light low and to the left of my KB. You'll want to experiment to see where the shadows from your fingers are least disruptive. Works well for me!
